I am currently a senior in graphic design at West Virginia University. I have been working with graphic design since sophomore year of high school. I spent three years in a vocational technical school where I split my school days with my tech school and normal high school. I was able to get experience using Adobe applications and designing in high school and college has helped me tremendously in strengthening my skills. I am able to do things that I never even knew about in tech school now and that is all thanks to college! I look forward to being the next year where I can perfect my graphic design so I am ready for my real career.
This project was one of my favorites for a variety of reasons. The process to get to where I finished took a lot of hard work that I am truly proud of. The idea of having each spread a different color taken from my chosen interviewee created so much personality while also staying cohesive. Also, my craftsmanship have always been one of my biggest hardships, but I am really proud of how I did with this project. We had to make 5 of them in total, so it gave me plenty of practice too.
Another one of my favourites is this collection of photographs I took while walking around my hometown. I really enjoyed being able to find so many of these signs and take interesting photographs of them. It also felt a little dangerous too since they clearly don’t want any people in their yard so me zsdrphotographing their yard or house felt rebellious. Luckily no one caught me! Anyways, I really enjoy how I made composed each photograph in their own unique ways.
Last but definitely not least, is this photography project. This was my last project from my first photography class and the whole process still felt new to me. I got the idea from the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which was something that really bothered me. The final project was meant to be based on an earlier project from that year and I chose to try an environmental portrait again, since I didn’t do it completely right then first time. I wanted to make a statement for the injustice that have been made against women and combining these elements turned out amazingly.
Along with graphic design and photography, I also greatly enjoy painting. It’s a medium that I really enjoy expressing myself and my beliefs through. It’s not my main career, but I look forward to keeping up my painting as a side hobby and doing commissions on the side. It’s easily something I can get lost in any time i start painting, which usually seems impossible for me!
